In order to reduce peak-time traffic congestion and improve regional mobility, the Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority improved the State Road 408 (Spessard L. Holland East-West Expressway) and State Road 417 (Central Florida GreeneWay) interchange. Work on this project began in October 2010 and was completed in March 2013.
The work included:
- Elimination of exit and entrance ramps at Valencia College Lane.
- Widening of SR 408 from six to eight lanes (four in each direction).
- A new two-lane ramp from southbound SR 417 to westbound SR 408.
- A new two-lane ramp from eastbound SR 408 to northbound SR 417.
This project is part of the Expressway Authority's SR 408 widening and improvements program - a $675 million initiative that broke ground in September 2003.
