In September 2020, the Central Florida Expressway Authority began designing the new four-lane limited access expressway from US 27 to State Road 429 known as State Road 516. The expressway is divided into three segments. Segment 1, from US 27 to west of Cook Road, Segment 2, from west of Cook Road to the Lake/Orange County line and Segment 3, from the Lake/Orange County line to SR 429. The new expressway is expected to improve connectivity between Lake and Orange counties, as well as meet future traffic needs.
The 5-mile project will build a new expressway from US 27 in Lake County to SR 429 in Orange County and includes interchanges at US 27, CR 455, Valencia Parkway and SR 429. The design realigns US 27 to avoid impacts to Lake Louisa State Park and adds bike trails located along SR 516, US 27, CR 455 and Valencia Parkway.
This project will also be unveiling CFX’s pilot in-lane pavement self-charging system in partnership with the ASPIRE Engineering Research Center.
