E-PASS FAQs

E-PASS is a prepaid toll account that allows motorists to pay tolls automatically with an E-PASS transponder attached to the car windshield. Each time an E-PASS customer passes through a toll facility where E-PASS is accepted, an antenna at the toll plaza electronically debits the toll from the vehicle owner’s E-PASS account. A record of all transactions is included in the E-PASS customer’s monthly statements and is available online.

E-PASS is accepted on all CFX expressways, as well as on all tolls roads and most tolled bridges in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina. You also can use E-PASS to pay for parking at Orlando International Airport.

E-PASS was introduced in 1994 as the first of its kind in Florida.

E-PASS customers pay an average of 23% less on tolls than motorists paying with cash.

E-PASS provides discounts and local customer service.

CFX Customer Loyalty Discount Program: E-PASS customers are automatically eligible for discounts based on the number of toll transactions per transponder on CFX expressways. For example:

A minimum of $10 in prepaid tolls is required to activate an E-PASS account, which comes with an E-PASS Sticker or E-PASS Portable transponder.

The E-PASS Sticker is free and does not need a battery. It’s about the size of a credit card and it is permanently affixed to the inside of a vehicle’s windshield.

The E-PASS Portable costs $9.95, plus tax, and does not need batteries. It comes with a two-year warranty. A motorist can move a portable transponder from one vehicle to another, but upon doing so we recommend updating the E-PASS account with the new vehicle’s license plate number.

All funds in an E-PASS account are refundable when the account is closed.

Yes, E-PASS can be used on all toll roads and most tolled bridges in Florida as well as in North Carolina and Georgia. Just look for the E-PASS, SunPass or LeeWay logo as you enter a toll road in Florida.

Whether you have a sticker or portable device, place it on the windshield’s interior directly behind the review mirror. If it’s not properly installed the transponder’s signal may not register at toll plazas. If it fails to register, you will be sent a Pay By Plate invoice for unpaid tolls, plus a 20-cent processing fee per toll. Placing your E-PASS elsewhere in your vehicle is a violation of the user agreement.

Log into your E-PASS account, call 407-823-7277 or go to an E-PASS Service Center and update your account with the latest vehicle information. If you have an E-PASS Sticker, we’ll replace it at no cost to you. If you have a E-PASS Portable, move it to the new vehicle.

Yes, an E-PASS Portable transponder works in the saddlebag. E-PASS Stickers cannot be used with motorcycles.

E-PASS customers can travel on any lane while passing through toll plazas. However, there are some restrictions on the maximum speed, depending on the following types of lanes:

E-PASS Express Lanes – Express lanes are identified by overhead gantries extending across an expressway. Drivers with E-PASS and other accepted transponders can travel on these lanes at the posted highway speed.

E-PASS Dedicated Lanes – Dedicated lanes resemble traditional tollbooth lanes, however, they are unmanned and equipped with electronic toll-collection devices that pick up transponder signals. The speed limit through these lanes is 35 miles per hour.

Exact Change & Cash Lanes – These are traditional tollbooth lanes for cash-paying motorists. Drivers with E-PASS and other accepted transponders may use these lanes but should expect stop-and-go traffic. The speed limit in these lanes is 25 miles per hour.

Yes. When you add funds to your account balance, CFX will deduct any unpaid tolls from your account. If you fail to replenish your account and continue to use the expressways, your account will be frozen and you will receive a Pay By Plate invoice. Repeated failure to pay tolls and invoices will result in a Uniform Traffic Citation.

Yes. Lee County’s LeeWay, SunPass, North Carolina’s Quick Pass and Georgia’s Peach Pass are accepted. No other transponders are accepted on Florida toll roads.

According to state statute, any handicapped person who has a valid driver’s license, who operates a vehicle specially equipped for use by the handicapped, and who is certified by a physician as being severely physically disabled and having permanent upper limb mobility or dexterity impairments shall be allowed free passage on the expressway system.
