State Road 417 Corridor Capacity Improvements from International Drive to State Road 528

Project Type: Construction

State Road 417 Corridor Capacity Improvements from International Drive to State Road 528

Project History

In October 2025, CFX completed the capacity improvements of SR 417 from SR 528 to International Drive from four to six lanes (three lanes in each direction) to improve traffic flow. During four years of construction CFX invested approximately $440 million to provide better access and easier travel to the Orlando metro area, airports, theme parks and more.

With an annual average daily traffic of about 86,000 vehicles, these improvements on SR 417 will help the increasing number of drivers reach their destinations more quickly and easily. The 21-mile improved stretch included adding a new flyover at Landstar Boulevard, enhancing several ramps to and from SR 417, and replacing the tolling system at the SR 417 Narcoossee Road ramp plaza with cashless technology.

In addition, CFX implemented a new incident management initiative called Flex Lanes. When an incident closes one or more of the right lanes, the new technology installed in the form of dynamic signs is activated to indicate which lanes are open or closed. A new wider median shoulder is then opened to keep traffic moving, while enhancing safety.

The SR 417 Capacity Improvements Projects consisted of five segments that were divided into contiguous parts to minimize the impact to motorists during construction. Please see below for details of each.
