We do so much more than moving cars at the Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX). We are reshaping how to think about expressways by championing innovation, fostering job creation, and committing to sustainability. We believe tomorrow’s transportation networks must do more for our communities.
We channel our resources where they are needed as a locally governed and operated toll agency to ensure connectivity and mobility as the region continues to grow. In the next five years, CFX is reinvesting over $4 billion back into the regional transportation network to harness innovation for safer, smarter, and future-ready expressways.
We explore innovative approaches with stewardship as a priority for each project such as:
- Powering expressways with clean energy and using native and low maintenance landscaping to reduce our carbon footprint
- Designing roads such as The Wekiva Parkway that protect wildlife corridors, natural habitats and conserve thousands of acres of green space
- Reinvesting our revenues back into Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties with economic impact that includes supporting more than 52,000 jobs, generating $2.4 billion in wages and $3.8 billion in gross domestic product*
We put safety and convenience first by prioritizing our customers and communities with projects including:
- Award-winning wrong way driving prevention technology with a documented 88% turnaround rate to prevent head-on collisions
- Florida’s first flex lanes and dynamic signage that manage congestion by using expressway shoulders
- Nation’s only temporary toll pass for rental car customers, Visitor Toll Pass, saving drivers 80% on Florida toll rates
Our future is guided by our Five-Year Work Plan and 2045 Master Plan as visionary blueprints for operations and capital improvements. Planned investments include:
- Piloting one of the first U.S. electrified expressways on our State Road 516 with in-road charging technology that will charge electric vehicles traveling at highway speeds
- Adding to our 600+ miles of fiber optic network to be ready for automated, connected, and electric vehicles
- Planning new critical infrastructure corridors to continue to support one of the fastest growing regions in the nation
