Overview & History

The Goldenrod Road Extension, which opened to traffic in March 2003, extends 2.7 miles from Goldenrod Road at Narcoossee Road south to Cargo Road. The extension connects Goldenrod Road to State Road 528 (Martin B. Andersen Beachline Expressway), east of the Orlando International Airport, at a system interchange.

Authorized on March 24, 1999, the extension is a joint project between CFX, the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, the City of Orlando and Orange County, with CFX serving as the lead agency on the project. Each partner contributed funds to this project that are being repaid through toll revenues generated solely by the Goldenrod Road Extension.

After all operational expenses are met and the partners are reimbursed for their contributions, the toll plaza will be removed and the roadway will be transferred to the City of Orlando. The City will be responsible for all future maintenance costs. CFX will retain ownership of the interchange to State Road 528 and certain portions of the right-of-way. Due to this agreement, Goldenrod Road Extension is considered a non-system project; and tolls collected from other CFX expressways do not fund any aspect of this extension, or vice versa.
