(ORLANDO, FL) The Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) is asking drivers to use caution and make safe choices as they travel for the Fourth of July holiday. According to AAA projections, more than 1.8 million Floridians, and a total of 41 million Americans, will drive to their Independence Day destinations. Friday, July 4th and Sunday, July 6th are expected to be the busiest travel days of the holiday period.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has been tracking car crash statistics for a quarter of a century. The Fourth of July almost always tops the list. To help prevent accidents on the roads, the Central Florida Expressway Authority offers a few simple tips for drivers to ensure a safe Fourth of July weekend:
- Know before you go! Check traffic conditions before leaving to your destination.
- Buckle up. Always wear your safety belt and have your passengers to do the same.
- Stay patient, don’t speed and don’t tailgate.
- Don’t text while driving. Instead, take the pledge to use a “Designated Texter.”
- Don’t drink and drive. The Fourth of July is a time to celebrate your freedom, not lose it!
In commemoration of Independence Day and to accommodate holiday travelers, no lane or ramp closures are scheduled Friday, July 4 through Sunday, July 6, 2014. The Central Florida Expressway Authority family wishes you and your family a safe and happy Fourth of July holiday.
