CFX INVESTS $4+ BILLION INTO CENTRAL FLORIDA REGION TO DELIVER A WORLD-CLASS MOBILITY NETWORK

The Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) will be investing $4.2 billion in the Central Florida region over the next 5 years. The CFX Board unanimously adopted the 2026-2030 Five-Year Work Plan on June 12, 2025. As a regional transportation agency, this major investment by CFX will help with critical infrastructure improvements and expansion projects that address the population and traffic growth in one of the fastest growing regions in the nation.

CFX’s new Five-Year Work Plan is an ambitious strategy to expand and enhance the agency’s regional transportation network connecting Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties. The plan includes four (4) new expressway corridors, continued investments in existing roads, and a focus on innovation to keep Central Florida moving efficiently and safely.

The plan’s three largest categories include:
• System Expansion Projects: $2.95 billion (70.4%)
• Existing System Improvements Projects: $410 million (9.8%)
• Interchange Projects: $338 million (8.1%)

Specifically, the new Five-Year Work Plan will:
• Additional capacity: Eight (8) projects across SR 408, SR 417, SR 429, and SR 528 totaling 30 centerline miles
• Interchange Improvements: Four (4) interchange projects located at SR 408 at Tampa Avenue, SR 408 at Orange Blossom Trail, SR 528 at Dallas Boulevard, and a new interchange on SR 429 at Binion Road
• Resurfacing Projects: Nearly 60 centerline miles of CFX’s current 125-mile expressway system
• Project Studies: Support the transportation needs of the region through three (3) Project Development & Environment (PD&E) studies, including SR 538 Southport Connector Expressway, SR 515 Northeast Connector Expressway, and SR 417 Sanford Airport Connector
• New Corridors: Deliver four (4) new corridors, including the SR 516 Lake/Orange Expressway, the SR 538 Poinciana Parkway Extension, the SR 534 Phases I, II, & III, and the SR 414 Expressway Extension
• Wrong Way Driver Detection: Complete the deployment of CFX’s Wrong Way Driver Detection System at 100% of the existing off-ramp locations on CFX’s expressway system

“Backed by a strong regional vision, this Work Plan reinforces our commitment to delivering the projects that keep Central Florida moving,” said CFX Chairman Christopher “C.J.” Maier. “We’re making real progress and building momentum for the communities we serve.”

In collaboration with our regional partners, every toll dollar collected is reinvested locally to maintain and expand a safe, reliable expressway system for our community. Funded entirely by toll revenue, our Five-Year Work Plan transforms our long-term vision into action, delivering projects that enhance mobility, drive economic growth, and improve quality of life throughout Central Florida.
