Pay By Plate FAQs

What is Pay By Plate?

Pay By Plate provides drivers toll collection by invoice using video images of vehicle license plates captured at toll points. It’s an easy way to pay tolls if you don’t want to pay cash and don’t have an E-PASS account, or compatible toll payment accounts i.e. SunPass, LeeWay, Quick Pass, Peach Pass, or E-ZPass, etc.

How does it work?

As you travel under a toll zone location (gantry) on CFX expressways, the vehicle license plate number is captured. If the license plate is not listed on a valid toll payment account i.e. E-PASS, SunPass, E-ZPass, etc., the vehicle’s registered owner will be mailed a Pay By Plate invoice for all trips.  Future travel will result in the issuance of monthly Pay By Plate invoice(s) if no toll payment account is established. Pay By Plate is the cash toll rate plus $.20 per trip, considerably higher than the E-PASS electronic toll rates.
