Using Our Expressways FAQs

Tolls Plazas and Express Lanes

CFX operates two types of toll-collection systems: traditional toll plazas and modern express lanes. Toll plazas serve all motorists, whether paying with cash, via electronic transponder or through Pay By Plate. Express lanes are unobstructed lanes with overhead gantries equipped with electronic toll collection technology. Vehicles passing under the gantries automatically pay tolls with transponders or are billed by our Pay-by-Plate technology. Transponders that are accepted in Florida include E-PASS, SunPass, LeeWay, Georgia Peach Pass and NC Quick Pass.

Tolls can be paid through three methods: with cash, electronic transponders (including E-PASS, SunPass, LeeWay, Georgia Peach Pass and NC Quick Pass), or through Pay By Plate.

With Pay By Plate, an image of your license plate is captured when you pass through the toll plaza. Then, electronically, the toll rate for that particular plaza plus 20-cent for processing is assessed to the vehicle’s owner. A monthly toll invoice is generated and mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle. Payment is due within 30 days. Click here to pay an invoice.

E-PASS, SunPass, LeeWay, Georgia Peach Pass and NC Quick Pass transponders are accepted in all toll lanes. However, we encourage motorists with transponders to use express lanes, which allow non-stop travel as tolls are paid automatically.

Cash-paying customers pay in the cash lanes at the toll plazas set off from expressways and at on- and off-ramps. Please note that on- and off-ramp plazas require exact change in coins. Bills are not accepted. Neither change nor receipts are available.
If you’re paying with bills at other plazas, please have cash ready to hand to the toll plaza attendant. Bills larger than $20 are not accepted. If you don’t have any bills under $20, the attendant will give you an Insufficient Fund notice. You can send payment in the form of a check or money order to the Central Florida Expressway Authority, P.O. Box 585070, Orlando, FL 32858-5070. Please include your license plate number and the state that issued your license plate on the check.
