June 11, 2026 (Orlando, FL) — The Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) board at its June 11, 2026 meeting approved the agency’s new Fiscal Year 2027–2031 Five-Year Work Plan which will invest approximately $4.46 billion in the Central Florida region over the next five years.
Funded by the drivers who use our expressways, the Work Plan invests in new projects while improving the system they rely on every day. The plan includes new expressway connections, widening projects for congestion relief, and safety initiatives. Together, these investments will improve mobility, reduce congestion in growing areas, and support safer, more reliable travel throughout Central Florida.
Existing System Improvements
To enhance the existing system Central Florida drivers rely on daily, a total of 22 miles of widening projects will provide congestion relief, improve traffic flow, and support more efficient travel in high-demand corridors, including:
- SR 408 Improvements Projects
- SR 528 Capacity Improvements
- SR 417 Capacity Improvements
- SR 429 Capacity Improvements
System Expansion Projects
To expand connectivity, five key expansion projects will add roughly 25 miles of new connections and improve mobility across the region, including:
- SR 516 (Lake/Orange Expressway)
- SR 534 Phases I, II and III
- SR 538 Poinciana Parkway Extension
- SR 414 Expressway Extension
- SR 452 Seminole Connector
Technology & Safety Initiatives
To maintain a safe and reliable system, the Work Plan includes investments in technology and safety initiatives, including:
- 100% completion of CFX’s Wrong Way Driver Detection system at existing off-ramp locations
- Approximately 58 miles of resurfacing
- Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Expansion of CFX’s Flex Lanes program to additional sections on SR 417 & SR 429 to enhance traffic management
Together, these projects will continue to deliver safer roadways, more consistent travel conditions, improved driver decision-making, and stronger long-term performance across CFX’s 125-mile expressway system.
