The 19th annual National Work Zone Awareness Week (NWZAW), happening April 8-12, 2019, will bring national attention to the importance of work zone safety. The Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) joins the Federal Highway Administration and other transportation organizations in the push to encourage drivers to take extra caution when entering and passing through work zones.
Each year during NWZAW, public agencies, organizations, and individuals across the country come together to advocate for the women and men who risk their lives in work zones each day to build and maintain our roadways. This year’s theme is “Work Zones: Drive Like You Work Here”. It aims to remind people that it is critical to use extra caution in and around work zones, and that regardless of where you work, we all deserve to arrive home safely.
“Every accident is preventable. If the drivers are alert, they’re paying attention, they monitor their speed, there’s no distractions, we would eliminate work zone traffic crashes,” said David Feise, a traffic safety expert with Arrive Alive Traffic Control. CFX is highlighting top work zone safety driving tips as part of their ongoing Drive Smart Florida safety campaign.
CFX continually works to enhance and expand its world-class transportation network to meet the needs of drivers in Central Florida. Work zones are necessary to improve the transportation system for everyone.
As a champion of work zone safety, CFX invites members of the Central Florida community to join others around the country in wearing orange to show support for work zone safety on Wednesday April 10, Go Orange Day.
