CFX To Support Safety Coalition

The Central Florida Expressway Authority today indicated its support for the “FL DNT TXT+DRIVE Coalition” in their mission to educate policy makers and the public about the dangers of texting while driving. CFX’s Board unanimously passed a resolution of support for the coalition’s work. April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

“The safety of our customers is at the forefront of everything we do,” said Welton Cadwell, chairman of the Central Florida Expressway Authority. “With our efforts and the efforts of this coalition and others, we’re working to make sure everyone who uses our system is as safe as they can be.”

CFX has been a front-runner in education on distracted driving issues with its innovative Designated Texter campaign featuring Tobias Harris of the Orlando Magic and Orlando area high school students offering a solution to texting and driving. The campaign encourages drivers to hand off their phones to someone else in the car to text.

More than 100,000 crashes each year, caused by texting while driving, lead to life-changing injuries or death. Drivers who text and drive are 23-times more likely to be involved in a crash.
