CFX Announces Kickoff of 2055 Master Plan Process

June 11, 2026 (Orlando, FL) – The Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) announced at its June Board meeting that it will start the planning process for the 2055 Master Plan.

The 2055 Master Plan is a long-range planning exercise that outlines the agency’s strategic direction for the next 25+ years. CFX’s Master Plan identifies regional transportation needs and helps inform the agency’s future operations and capital investment priorities, serving as a foundational framework for the Five-Year Work Plan.

The development of CFX’s 2055 Master Plan is a two-step process that is expected to take roughly two years. During the first step, CFX will embark on a listening tour to seek input from regional government leaders, transportation planners and other community stakeholders in CFX’s five-county jurisdiction, which includes Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties. The listening tour will provide data and input on the existing expressway system needs, new projects or expansions, emerging transportation markets, as well as innovative technologies for operations and toll collection.

This input will be incorporated into the second step of the process, which is the creation of the final master plan.

“The expressway system drivers experience today is the result of more than half a century of regional planning that considered the needs of Central Florida as a whole,” said CFX Chairman and Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. “The 2055 Master Plan is preparing us for the future, and that starts with listening and understanding what our region may need.”

Input from stakeholders in prior CFX master plans identified key projects that are now part of the agency’s Five-Year Work Plan, adding roughly 25 new centerline miles to CFX’s expressway system.

“The projects under construction today started as ideas that came from our communities. The governance of our board and our previous master plans demonstrate that listening to those we serve can lead to a system that meets the needs of our region,” said CFX Executive Director Michelle Maikisch. “The 2055 Master Plan process will give us the same strategic roadmap for decades to come.”
