Elected to the Board of County Commissioners in 2008, Commissioner Fred Hawkins, Jr. is a long-time resident of Osceola County. He was appointed to the Central Florida Expressway Authority on May 5, 2014. Commissioner Hawkins represents District 5, a mostly rural area ripe for growth and development that extends east to neighboring Brevard County and south to Indian River County. Within District 5 are the city of St. Cloud and the development of Harmony, a thriving new residential community that promotes a balance of humans, nature and pets.

He currently serves as Osceola County’s representative on the Board of Directors of the Florida Association of Counties, the Central Florida Expressway Authority, GOPEP (Greater Osceola Partnership for Economic Prosperity), the Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission, the East Central Florida Corridor Task Force, the Foundation for Osceola Education, the St. Cloud Incubator Project Advisory Board, St. Cloud Hospital’s Advisory Board of Trustees, and the Public Risk Underwriters of Florida, Inc., Board of Trustees.

He has served as the Chairman of the Osceola County Board of Commissioners, Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Osceola County Planning Commission, Vice Chairman of the Osceola County Charter Review Commission, and Chairman of the Republican Lincoln Day Dinner. He has also sat on the Board of Directors for the Harmony Institute, the Boys & Girls Club, the Children’s Advocacy Center, Community Vision, Central Florida Commission on Homelessness, Workforce Central Florida and the East Central Florida Regional Planning Council.

In March 2014, Commissioner Hawkins received the prestigious 2014 Golden Eagle Award from Boy Scouts of America. The award recognizes men and women – both in and out of Scouting – who are champions of community service and who display the qualities embodied in the Boy Scout Law.

Commissioner Hawkins graduated from the University of Akron with degrees in Pre-Law and Political Science, and is employed at Progressive Waste Solutions and is the President of the St. Cloud Chamber of Commerce.

He lives in St. Cloud with his wife and daughter Kendrie.
